Wooden Toys - How to Clean and Care For Them

Wooden toys are durable and when properly cared for can last for generations. These easy steps will help you keep your child wooden toys clean, sanitary and in good condition. We recommend that you clean all elements of the toy regularly and thoroughly to prevent the spread of bacteria. Because our wooden toys are made of natural materials, it is important to understand the difference between unfinished and finished elements. Some of our wooden toys are unfinished. These toys are not stained or painted in any way, rather they have been left in its natural state. Our finished elements are treated with non-toxic dyes and natural paint colors.

Daily cleaning - both finished and unfinished toys can be wiped with a dry cloth for daily maintenance and cleaning. Unfinished toys can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or sponge to remove dirt or dust and then dried.

Finished toys can be gently cleaned with a natural, unabrasisve soap and a little water. Once cleaned, moisture should be wiped off with a dry cloth and items should be allowed to dry completely before use. A rinse with water and vinegar can be used on finished items to remove crayon marks and oil-based stains. Regardless of either finish, soaking in water never recommended as this can cause swelling.

Very dirty elements require deep cleaning and a bleach and water mixture can be used. The ratio is as follows: 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Dampen a cloth in the solution and wipe the toy clean. Rinse quickly with clean water and dry with a cloth and let the toy to air dry completely before use. Do not soak, as this could cause swelling and damage the toy.

Caring for Wooden Toys
o Avoid leaving your wooden toy outside for long periods. Sun damage can cause paint to fade over time, water damage can lead wooden toys to swell and grow old too soon.
o Sand down any rough areas with fine sand paper if the wood has been broken or scratched.
o Do not expose the artifacts to high humidity.
o When it's time to clean wooden toys, trying to wipe with a dry cloth first. If a damp cloth is needed to remove dirt, moisten the cloth just to clean. Wipe away moisture and let it air dry.
